Program

A committee of local, regional and international members are organizing the event, and internationally recognized keynote speakers/facilitators have agreed to attend the workshop.

The program will be held over two days, including plenary sessions and parallel break-out workshop sessions (which would have multiple topics at the same time, giving participants a choice to attend any one of the workshops). Tentative topics and a program are given below (Table 1 & 2), however, a needs assessment is currently underway, requesting regional physiology and basic science departments what should be the priority of topics for a regional teaching workshop, and subject experts volunteering to facilitate sessions.

PLENARY SESSIONS

  1. Large language models, machine learning and generative AI
  2. Flipped classrooms
  3. Engaging students in our teaching

PARALLEL WORKSHOPS

  1. Designing problems to introduce core curriculum in physiology
  2. Small and large group facilitation skills
  3. Practical Experiments in Physiology Requiring Minimal Equipment
  4. Is technology a substitute for lab practicals?
  5. Use of data acquisition systems in laboratories
  6. Use of gen AI in assessment by staff and students

Tentative Program

Sun 14 Sept

  • 15:00: Assemble at the main Congress site in Frankfurt 
  • 15:30: Buses depart for conference center
  • 17:00: Arrive conference center
  • 17:00-18:00: Check in and get settled
  • 18:00-19:00: Dinner
  • 19:00-21:00: Opening session. Plenary speaker?

Mon 15 Sept

  • 07:30-08:30: Breakfast
  • 08:30-09:30: Group session – plenary or panel discussion? 
  • 9:30-10:00: Coffee break and networking. Visit exhibitors
  • 10:00-12:00: Workshop session 1 (4 concurrent)
  • 12:00-13:00: Lunch
  • 13:00-15:00: Workshop session 2 (4 concurrent)
  • 15:00-15:30: Coffee Break
  • 15:30-17:30: Workshop session 3 (4 concurrent)  or could be big group session
  • 17:30-18:30: Free time
  • 18:30-19:30: Dinner
  • 19:30-21:30: Celebrate diversity party

Tu 16 Sept

  • 07:30-08:30: Breakfast
  • 08:30-10:30: Workshop session 4
  • 10:30-11:00: Coffee break
  • 11:00-12:00: Closing session
  • 12:00-13:00: Lunch
  • 13:00: Board buses for return to Frankfurt
